Some of you may recall that my friend Kelli King-Jackson and I have collaborated on newsletters to share our bits of wisdom. After many years as a senior leader in philanthropy, Kelli now runs her own coaching business to support Black women leading in white spaces. Here are our earlier thoughts: Kelli and Martha's top ten coping strategies and Kelli and Martha's end of year survival list: special edition.
This year, we took our cue from Kelli’s very meaningful work, and focused on rest.
TEN REASONS WHY REST MATTERS [In order of importance]
Rest increases purpose
Rest makes problems feel more manageable
Rest is fun
Rest is refreshing
Rest feeds the creative juices
Rest generates new ideas
Rest improves social relationships
Rest allows the mind and body to repair
Rest is liberation
Rest is necessary
TEN WAYS TO REST
Read or listen to a book
Lay down (sleep not required)
Honor your peak sleep times
Look out the window
Have a creative date with yourself
Listen to music
Move your body as you are able
Sing from your soul
Play a game
Spend time with someone who will love you up
I hope your Christmas was everything you wanted it to be, and that your New Year is happy and healthy.
Love from our house to your house,
Kelli and Martha
Yes, rest! I'm trying, but the machine has strong, magnetic powers and keeps drawing me back to my desk! Enjoy your holiday break, Martha.
