I hope your August is giving you some rest and relaxation and sunshine.
It may seem strange, but I had to stay away from ballet books when I was writing Three Muses. I was trying to keep my mental real estate clear of outside influences. Now I’m having fun doing a bit of catch up.
Here’s my review in Pointe Magazine of Vaganova Today, Catherine Pawick’s re-issued biography of Agrippina Vaganova, who trained as a ballerina in Imperial Russia, and became an enthusiastic supporter of the Russian Revolution. By creating and publishing a pedagogy that combined classical tradition (French and Italian) with a forward looking approach to teaching and performance, Vaganova seeded a uniquely Russian school of ballet.
I’m also happy to share my interview in The Millions with Laura Warrell. Her debut novel, Sweet, Soft, Plenty Rhythm comes out in September. For readers who delight in a a panoply of interesting women, this book is for you. It’s is a luxuriant dive into the world of jazz and love.
Hugs,
Martha
If one loves something that love shines through in all they do. Your love for ballet colors and shines and gleams and glows and glistens as you write yourself through life.
