First, let me acknowledge our collective grief and anxiety. Countless people have worked and suffered to expand rights in our country. I feel an enormous debt to those on whose shoulders we stand, and to you, for the personal and professional contributions you make every day to heal our hurting world.
Against this sobering backdrop, I am pleased to share that my audio rights went to auction, which means there were multiple bidders, and that Three Muses will be out as an audio book as well as a paper and e-book. Selling a book is a bit like cutting up a pie, pieces of it can be sold at different points. Three Muses will be recorded by a professional reader and should be available at or around date of publication, September 20.
In other news, I am honored and thrilled to join the PEN/Faulkner Board of Directors. I know I will learn a lot, and am hoping I can do my small part to supporting our communities.
Last week, for the Washington Post, I reviewed Stuart Isacoff’s Musical Revolutions: How the Sounds of the Western World Changed. The book is a breathless sprint through hundreds of years of music, and my review was not entirely favorable. Mr. Isacoff was concerned enough that he wrote a letter to the editor of the Washington Post challenging my review. You can read his letter here.
I wish you a joyous and healthy Fourth. Hugs to you and your loved ones.
Love, Martha
