I wanted to share two recent reviews of THREE MUSES because they each made me feel “seen and heard” in profound ways. Cassandra Lane, Executive Editor of L.A. Parent and author of a beautiful memoir, WE ARE BRIDGES, gave me an incredible gift with this review. Immense thanks also to Graham Watts, OBE and Chairman, Dance Section of the UK Critics' Circle for this review.
It’s been amazing visiting with readers. This week I’m traveling to Raleigh, North Carolina. On Wednesday, October 12 at 7 PM, Gavin Larsen, Barbara Quick, and I will be in conversation at Quail Ridge Books with Regal House Publishing’s managing editor, Pam Van Dyk. I hope to see you there!
THREE MUSES comes in three formats—paper, audio, and ebook, and I’d be thrilled if you picked up a copy. Thank you to all who already have! We are running a Goodreads giveaway until October 18 as well. I would also love to visit your book group by zoom or in person, so please let me know.
Last Saturday I had a wonderful time on the porch of the Ivy Bookshop in Baltimore chatting with customers and signing books. If you live anywhere nearby, Ivy Bookshop is a must-visit. It’s in a lovely old house that once served as a church.
I was over the moon to find THREE MUSES on the fiction faves table at Politics & Prose, here in DC.
Schedule for the next two weeks:
If you’re in the DC Metro Area—
I’ll be in conversation with Alice Stephens at the Writers Center in Bethesda on October 18 at 7 PM
I’ll be in conversation with Ericka Taylor at the Cleveland Park Library on October 20 at 6:30 PM
If you’re in the Philadelphia Metro Area—
I’ll be in conversation with Moriel Rothman-Zecher at Main Point Books in Wayne on October 25 at 7 PM

Fall is a great time to curl up with a book. (Isn’t it always a great time to curl up with a book?) What are you reading? I’d love to hear.
I just finished two special books. Dolen Perkins-Valdez’s novel TAKE MY HAND, uses fiction to tell the story of the US government’s efforts to sterilize poor Black and Brown girls through to the early 1970s. If this sounds horrific, it is. Perkins-Valdez draws readers in with a complicated and appealing main character named Civil Townsend, a nurse who discovers the atrocities and helps bring the government to justice.
Jabari Asim’s WE CAN’T BREATHE is a series of compelling essays “on Black lives, white lies, and the art of survival.” I highly recommend it.
Sending love and hugs for a beautiful autumn and beyond,
Martha
