Last Sunday I had the remarkable experience of having the music from my book played live at Berkeley, California’s Hillside Club. My co-conspirator for the event was Gwendolyn Mok, a marvelous Berkeley-based pianist and long-time friend.
Gwen rounded up pianists Omri Shimron and Markus Pawlik, as well as Pawlik’s son, violinist Ariel Pawlik-Zweibel. A program was born: “An Afternoon of Music and Words.”
Each musical selection was paired with a section from my book. To say this was my dream for DUET FOR ONE is an understatement. I will be pinching myself for a long time. Here are a few pix.
Due to the lack of high quality recording equipment, we did not tape this concert. However, I’d love for you to hear the music. Please find links below from YouTube.
Third movement of the Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano by César Franck; pages 27 and following from DUET FOR ONE.*
Vocalise for Violin and Piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff; pages 17-18 in DUET FOR ONE.*
French Suite No. 2 in C Minor, BWV 813 by Johann Sebastian Bach [Gwen played the second and third movements]; pages 94-95 in DUET FOR ONE.*
Sonata for Two Pianos in F Minor, Op. 34b by Johannes Brahms, first movement; pages 44-47 from DUET FOR ONE.*
If you’re in Philly this Tuesday night, June 17, please join me in conversation with Paul Lisicky, at 6:30 PM, Head House Books.
Republic of Cruelty
Tomorrow is No Kings Day. Let’s show up in big numbers. Let’s say no to military autocracy, and Darth Vader’s bizarre concepts of cruelty and self aggrandizement. Below are links to events in your area:
Please be well.
